Soldier sentenced to jail for running away from Boko Haram and hiding in Igboland

A Nigerian Army soldier Egbechi Oze (not pictured) has been slammed with a 14 months jail term after it was discovered that he fled his position and took refuge in the Southeast.

Although he was also charged for not accounting for his gun and ammunition, Egbechi was not found guilty of the charges.

An army general court martial sitting in Maiduguri, Borno however sentenced the soldier to jail for abandoning his position after a Boko Haram attack in Gwoza while continuing to collect salaries and other benefits.
