Nana Akufo-Addo defeats incumbent president John Mahama in Ghana general elections

Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party has emerged president-elect of Ghana after defeating sitting president John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress in the 2016 Ghanaian presidential elections held on December 7.

According to Akufo-Addo, Mahama called him on phone to concede defeat after the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) declared him winner with 53.27 percent of the ballot votes while the latter polled 44.93 percent.
