The All Progressives Congress (APC) has explained why some Southwest governors and chieftains of the party were absent as its nominee at the Ondo State guber elections billed for November 26, Rotimi Akeredolu, held his grand campaign rally on Saturday 19 2016.
While President Muhammadu Buhari and few other APC governors were present, people wondered if the Oyegun/Tinubu rift caused the former Lagos State governor as well as his protege, the current governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, to skip the rally.
Explaining the incident, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State who also doubles as the campaign co-ordinator of the APC Ondo State guber elections, said on Monday:
"That (their absence) was not a problem. We explained their absence. They sent in their apologies. You heard what happened there.
"As far as we are concerned, the President who is the leader of the party was at the rally. The national chairman was also there. As far as we are concerned, everybody was there.
"To the party, their absence did not make any difference. If a leader was not there and he has said he was not there because of ill-health, we have prayed that God will heal him."
