Residents of Ekole Creek in Bayelsa State are uneasy over the leakage of an oil pipeline belonging to Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) on Wednesday. Ekole Creek spans across Agbura and Otuokpoti communities in Ogbia and Yenagoa LGA of Bayelsa respectively.

The resulting oil spillage has damaged farmlands, drinking water, wildlife and the habitat environment in general, the communities say.

In a letter signed by Otuokpoti traditional ruler, Cousin Wong, the Niger Delta community said:
"We cannot drink water, we cannot bathe in the river, our aquatic life such as fish and animals are dying.

"We appeal to the relevant authorities to come to our aid."
