The Abia State House of Assembly has passed a bill banning public grazing within the state. This comes shortly after Ekiti State signed a similar bill into law back in August.

In Abia State, the anti-grazing bill titled "HAB 36-Control of Nomadic Activities, Rearing and Prohibition of Grazing Routes/Reserves in Abia State Bill 2016," passed a first reading on Wednesday 16 November 2016.

Confirming the development, deputy speaker Cosmos Ndukwe told newsmen at the House of Assembly complex that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu directed the law be hastily put in effect to curb the violent activities of Fulani herdsmen in Abia communities.
