The Union's president, Ikechukwu Anyene, speaking on the murder incident said that over 20 Nigerians were subsequently arrested when they carried out a peaceful protest over the unjust killing of their brother. However, he noted that most of the detainees were released shortly after.
Anyene said in a statement today:
"Nigeria Union is satisfied with investigations done so far by the South African police.
"Our people and government are not happy with the way cases involving Nigerians in South Africa are being handled, vis-a-vis the high success rate of prosecution of crime in South Africa.
"We told Nigerians resident in the province to remain law abiding and allow the police to carry out a thorough investigation of the incident."
