South African EFC fighter Danie ‘Pitbull’ van Heerden was stripped of his heavyweight title after he used his opponent's picture next to a chimpanzee in an Instagram update where he hurled insults at Zimbabwean opponent Elvis Moyo. Danie was also disqualified for a 15 October 2016 match where he was supposed to defend the title against Elvis.
When the post backfired and Elvis' supporters (and everybody else who hates racism) swooped on his page, Danie apologized and removed the post.
But then, it was too late as EFC president Cairo Howarth released a statement saying:
"The EFC will not tolerate any form of racism by our athletes. What Danie van Heerden posted was completely unacceptable and we have taken the course of action to strip him of his title so Danie is no longer facing Elvis for the heavyweight title, he is no longer the heavyweight champion and he has been suspended from the organisation."
