Came across this thought-provoking article written on social media site Facebook buy a user named Jay Jay.

Here it goes:
'Walk into any Nigerian university and you will wonder whether it is actually an academic institution or a religious jamboree campground. Banners and posters advertising fellowship centers are littered everywhere. Religious centers are stationed at every corner - well funded and swelling with students membership.

But you won't find a single academic or research club in these universities, and where they exist, they are very few, under funded and lacking members and motivation.

These are institutions where we train our future leaders, economists, scientists, politicians, engineers, doctors... Institutions that cannot fund a very simple research program, but students routinely carry out well funded evangelical outreaches, using buses that cost millions of naira. That is our priority!

Show me a university that has more religious activities than research and academic activities, and I'll show you a university that will never make it to global top 500 academic institutions; I'll show you a university whose graduates lack problems-solving skills to move their society forward.'
