Delta State is not to be included in the agitation for Biafra Republic. This is according to a statement released by Secretary to Government (SSG), Festus Ovie Agas, who admitted that some parts of the South South state have Igbo affiliations but doubted the possibility of the oil-rich state being part of a Biafran nation - if actualized.

Mr. Agas noted that:
"It has become imperative for the Government of Delta State to make this clarification to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding regarding the status of Delta State in the renewed Biafra agitation.

"While some communities in the state may have cultural affinity with the people of the South-East, it is clearly a patent error for anybody or group to suggest or insinuate that Delta State, or more specifically, the Anioma people have been or are part of the South-East that is supposed to make up the proposed Biafra Republic."
The SSG also warned against protests by Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) on Delta State soil, threatening that anybody found flouting the orders will be punished.
