Following the effecting of an Anti-grazing law in  of the Ekiti State late last month by Governor Ayo Fayose, a magistrates court sentenced one Ali Haruna to two years imprisonment for rearing cows outside a government approved ranch.

The 18-year-old herdsman was also found guilty of destroying a farmland with his cows. The destroyed crops which included cassava, maize, okro and pepper were valued at 3m naira.

Ali's lawyer Chris Omokhafe pleaded that the defendant was a first time offender and should be tempered with mercy but Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo found him guilty of the said offense, stating that the defendant was arraigned on January 22, 2016 over a two-count charge of wilful and unlawful damage of farm crops at Ago Aduloju in Ado-Ekiti.
